If you are looking for somewhere quiet to practice, learn a role, write that novel then just step through the door into the large studio (pictured top left) between the master bedroom and the terrace. If you want inspiration and a wealth of locations on your doorstep for painting, photography or filming, then there is nowhere better than the Old Reading Room and it's surrounding area.
Musicians and film makers will be particularly interested to know about our collaboration with Barn Arts. Suitable for soloists, and small groups, Barn Arts is a wonderful facility. Artists staying at the Old Reading Room and utilising Barn Arts will receive a discount for both facilities. Please call for details.
Barn Arts is a recital hall/cinema/recording studio, with variable acoustics and 49 seats arranged on two levels. The building is located adjacent to the owner’s house and set in the middle of the delightful village of Thornage, 3 minute drive or a relaxed 20 minute walk from the Old Reading Room. There is plentiful off street parking and the town of Holt is five minutes drive away.
The performance area measures 17ft x 12ft and includes a new Feurich 178 grand piano, which is regularly tuned and was set up by the senior Feurich technician from Vienna.
The cinema screen is 4 metres wide and there is an HD projector and 5.1 surround system with B&W speakers throughout. The recording equipment, which can be hired separately, with or without sound engineer is as follows:

NB The studio is not fully soundproofed, but situated in a very quiet area.
Access to the studio is by a separate door, but guests are welcome to use the kitchen, toilet etc are in the main house.
